Gerace is a gem of history and art that must be visited to immerse oneself in a suggestive atmosphere. Starting from the Cathedral, located in the heart of the historic center, a masterpiece of Norman and Gothic architecture. Inside, medieval frescoes and sacred artworks can be admired. Perched on a panoramic hill is the Norman Castle, in an area that offers a breathtaking view of the city and the Ionian coast. Dating back to the 11th century, it features imposing defensive walls and watchtowers. The Church of San Francesco dates back to the 13th century and is characterized by an elegant Gothic facade. Inside, valuable frescoes and sculptures can be admired. Then there is the Church of San Giovannello, from the 10th century, which preserves frescoes from the Byzantine period. Gerace's main square, Piazza del Tocco, is surrounded by ancient noble palaces and characterized by the presence of a Baroque fountain. It is the ideal place to take a break and admire the atmosphere of the village. The Diocesan Museum, inside the Archiepiscopal Palace, hosts a rich collection of sacred art, including paintings, sculptures, and liturgical artifacts. One of the ancient gates to the medieval city, the Porta del Sole, is characterized by a majestic tower and a stone arch. From the "Bombarde," finally, the view spans a landscape characterized by rolling hills, cultivated fields, olive groves, and vineyards, stretching to the Ionian Sea on the horizon. On clear days, it is possible to clearly see the coasts and surrounding coastal cities.
